Description
Radish is a fast-growing, cool-season root vegetable with crisp, peppery roots. It is suitable for small spaces and containers.
Product features
• Very fast growing, often ready to harvest in 22–30 days from sowing
• Crisp, peppery roots in round or elongated shapes, red, pink, white, purple, or black
• Cool-season crop, best in spring and fall; bolts quickly in summer heat
• Suitable for containers, raised beds, and interplanting between slower crops
• Leaves are also edible and slightly spicy (radish greens)
• Small size makes it ideal for succession planting
• Many specialty varieties including daikon (long white radish)
Sowing: Direct sow in early spring as soon as soil can be worked, or in late summer for fall harvest. Sow ¼–½ inch deep. Space seeds 1 inch apart; thin to 2 inches apart. Rows 6–12 inches apart. Full sun to partial shade.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, loose, sandy loam (pH 6.0–7.0). Remove stones for straight roots. Germination temperature 55–70°F (13–21°C).
Germination Time: 4–7 days (very fast).
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist throughout growth. Inconsistent watering causes cracked, pithy, or overly hot roots.
Additional Tips: Sow small amounts every 7–10 days for continuous harvest. Harvest promptly when roots reach desired size (usually 1 inch diameter for round varieties). Overmature radishes become woody and excessively spicy. Use shade cloth in warmer weather to extend the season.
