About this seed

Why gardeners choose this variety

Shepherd's purse takes its English name from the small, heart-shaped seed pods that resemble old-fashioned purses. In Chinese food culture it is known as ji cai, one of the leafy greens associated with the arrival of spring.

Low leaf rosettes develop into fine flowering stems, giving the plant both culinary and botanical interest. Grow it in a clearly labelled cool-season bed, gathering correctly identified tender leaves for cooked fillings, soups or vegetable dishes. Leaving a few plants to flower reveals the distinctive pods, while removing unwanted seed heads helps keep the planting contained.

Picked up Shepherd’s Purse seeds to add another edible plant to my garden. The seeds are tiny, so I’ll have to be careful when sowing them!

Packaging was intact. Most seeds germinated successfully after sowing. The seller gave clear growing guidance and answered my questions quickly. The only downside was a few slow-growing seedlings.Would recommend to home gardeners.
