• Suitable for wildflower meadows, cottage gardens, and borders
• Seed pods are attractive in dried arrangements
• Low maintenance with no fertilizer needs
Sowing: Direct sow in early spring as soon as soil can be worked, or in fall in mild climates. Surface sow (seeds need light to germinate); press gently into soil but do not cover. Space plants 6–8 inches apart after thinning. Full sun required.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, moderately fertile soil (pH 6.0–7.5). Tolerates poor soil. Germination temperature 55–65°F (13–18°C).
Germination Time: 10–20 days.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination. Once seedlings are established, water moderately, allowing soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overhead watering to prevent mildew.
Additional Tips: Poppies have taproots and do not transplant well; sow directly in final location. Thin seedlings to avoid overcrowding. Do not over-fertilize, as this reduces flowering.
