Description

Poa annua is a cool-season annual grass that appears in lawns and disturbed areas. It has a light green color and produces seed heads very low to the ground.

Product features

• Light green color with a fine, soft texture
• Produces seed heads very close to the soil surface, even at low mowing heights
• Cool-season habit, germinating in fall or early spring and flowering in spring
• Commonly found in lawns, pathways, and compacted areas
• Self-seeds prolifically, returning year after year from seed
• Tolerates close mowing and moderate foot traffic
• Often appears as a "volunteer" grass in many lawn types

Sowing: Direct sow in early spring or fall (best in fall). Surface sow or barely cover (⅛ inch deep). Broadcast as desired. Full sun to partial shade.
Soil & Temperature: Adaptable to a wide range of soils, including compacted and moist soils (pH 5.5–7.5). Germination temperature 55–70°F (13–21°C).
Germination Time: 7–14 days.
Watering: Keep soil moist during germination. Once established, water moderately. Poa annua prefers moist conditions.
Additional Tips: Poa annua is often considered a weed in managed lawns. If you intend to cultivate it, understand it will produce abundant seed. It dies in summer heat. Control in lawns focuses on preventing seed production (using pre-emergent herbicides in late summer).
