Description

Rosemary is a perennial woody herb with needle-like, fragrant leaves. It is slow growing from seed but thrives in well-drained soil.

Product features

• Highly fragrant, needle-like leaves with pine-like aroma, used in cooking
• Evergreen perennial shrub, reaching 2–6 feet depending on variety and pruning
• Drought tolerant once established; thrives in hot, dry, sunny conditions
• Produces small, pale blue to white flowers in spring and summer
• Slow growing from seed; patience required (vegetative propagation is faster)
• Suitable for containers, herb gardens, rock gardens, and as a low hedge
• Deer resistant and attractive to bees when flowering

Sowing: Start indoors 10–12 weeks before last frost. Seeds have low germination rate; sow extra. Sow surface or barely cover (seeds need light). Use well-draining seed mix. Space plants 12–24 inches apart. Full sun required.
Soil & Temperature: Requires very well-draining, sandy or gritty soil (pH 6.0–7.5). Does not tolerate wet feet. Germination temperature 65–75°F (18–24°C).
Germination Time: 14–28 days (slow, sometimes up to 30+ days).
Watering: Keep soil lightly moist during germination (mist, do not soak). Once established, water deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings. Rosemary is very drought tolerant.
Additional Tips: Bottom heat improves germination. Do not overwater at any stage; rosemary is susceptible to root rot. Use gritty potting mix for containers. Prune regularly to maintain shape. In cold climates (USDA zones 7 and below), grow in containers and bring indoors before hard frost.
