Description
Peppermint is a perennial herb with strongly fragrant leaves, commonly used in teas and cooking.
Product features
• Very strong, sharp mint fragrance and flavor (higher menthol than spearmint)
• Fast-growing and vigorous, spreading readily when conditions are favorable
• Perennial (USDA zones 5–11), returning year after year
• Dark green, slightly fuzzy leaves with purplish stems
• Leaves can be harvested repeatedly throughout the growing season
• Produces small purple or pink flower spikes in late summer
• Suitable for containers (recommended) and herb gardens
Sowing: Start indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost, or direct sow after frost. Surface sow or barely cover (⅛ inch deep). Space plants 18 inches apart. Full sun to partial shade.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers rich, moist, well-draining soil (pH 6.0–7.5). Germination temperature 65–70°F (18–21°C).
Germination Time: 7–14 days.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist throughout the growing season. Peppermint prefers consistent moisture and does not tolerate extended dryness.
Additional Tips: Peppermint is an aggressive spreader. Always grow in containers or with root barriers. Pinch growing tips to encourage bushiness. Cut back to ground level after flowering to promote fresh growth. Divide container plants every 2 years.
