Description

Passion fruit is a tropical vine that produces round or oval fruits with sweet-tart pulp. It requires a warm climate and support structure.

Product features

• Vigorous, fast-growing vine that can reach 15–30 feet per year
• Produces exotic, intricate flowers with purple, white, and blue structures
• Edible fruits with aromatic, sweet-tart pulp (may take 1–2 years after planting)
• Attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds
• Provides dense coverage for trellises, fences, and arbors
• Suitable for warm climates (USDA zones 9–11) or grown in containers and overwintered indoors
• Perennial in frost-free areas

Sowing: Sow in spring. Seeds benefit from soaking in warm water for 24–48 hours before planting. Sow ¼–½ inch deep. Space vines 8–10 feet apart. Full sun required.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, fertile soil (pH 6.5–7.5). Rich in organic matter. Germination temperature 70–85°F (21–29°C). Bottom heat improves germination.
Germination Time: 21–28 days (can be longer).
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist (not soggy) during germination and early growth. Once established, water regularly; passion fruit does not tolerate extended drought.
Additional Tips: Provide a sturdy trellis or support. In cooler climates, grow in a large container and move indoors before frost. Hand-pollinate flowers if natural pollinators are scarce. Fruit may take 60–90 days from flower to ripen.
