Description

Osteospermum, also known as African daisy, produces colorful, daisy-like flowers that close at night and open in bright light.

Product features

• Vibrant, daisy-shaped flowers in shades of purple, pink, white, orange, and yellow
• Unique habit: flowers close at night and on overcast days, opening in bright sun
• Long blooming period from late spring through fall
• Heat and drought tolerant once established
• Low-growing, mounding habit (8–18 inches tall), suitable for containers and borders
• Evergreen perennial in mild climates (USDA zones 9–11), grown as annual elsewhere
• Attracts butterflies and other pollinators

Sowing: Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ⅛ inch deep. Space plants 8–12 inches apart. Full sun required (at least 6 hours).
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, moderately fertile soil (pH 6.0–7.0). Germination temperature 65–70°F (18–21°C).
Germination Time: 10–15 days.
Watering: Keep soil lightly moist during germination. Once established, water moderately, allowing soil to dry slightly between waterings. Osteospermum is drought tolerant and does not like wet feet.
Additional Tips: Pinch young plants to encourage branching. Deadheading (removing spent flowers) promotes continuous blooming. In hot summer climates, plants may pause blooming; cut back lightly to encourage fall blooms. Provide good air circulation.
