Description
Mango is a tropical fruit tree that produces sweet, juicy fruits. It requires warm, frost-free conditions and space to grow.
Product features
• Sweet, aromatic fruits with juicy orange flesh and a large flat seed inside
• Tropical tree that can reach 30–60 feet in ground in warm climates
• Evergreen with glossy, dark green leaves
• Produces small, fragrant, pink-white flowers in large panicles
• Many fruit shapes, sizes, and flavors depending on variety (polyembryonic seeds produce true-to-type fruit; monoembryonic may vary)
• Suitable for container growing in cooler climates (keeps tree smaller, 6–10 feet)
• Polyembryonic varieties (e.g., Nam Doc Mai) are preferred for seed growing
Sowing: Sow in spring. Remove seed from husk (or plant husk intact; husk method slower). Use fresh seed for best results. Sow horizontally on side, ½ inch deep in well-draining potting mix. One seed per large pot. Full sun required.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5–7.5). Germination temperature 75–85°F (24–29°C).
Germination Time: 14–42 days (faster if seed is removed from husk).
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged during germination. Once established, water deeply when top inch of soil dries.
Additional Tips: Trees grown from seed may take 5–8 years to fruit (polyembryonic types fruit earlier and true-to-type). In cooler climates, grow in container and move indoors during winter. Provide a large container (20+ gallons). Prune to maintain size. Protect from frost.
