Description
Lithops, also known as living stones, are small succulent plants that resemble pebbles. They are slow-growing perennials native to southern Africa.
Product features
• Extremely unique appearance, mimicking small stones or pebbles
• Very slow growing but long-lived (can survive for decades)
• Produces daisy-like yellow or white flowers from the center fissure in autumn
• Requires very little water or care once established
• Ideal for small pots, dish gardens, and rock gardens
• Each plant consists of one pair of fleshy leaves that split to reveal new leaves
• Suitable for indoor growing on bright windowsills
Sowing: Sow in spring or early summer. Use a gritty, well-draining cactus mix with sand and fine gravel. Surface sow (seeds are very small); do not cover. Sow in individual small pots or spaced 2 inches apart. Bright indirect light, not direct sun.
Soil & Temperature: Requires extremely well-draining, mineral soil (80% pumice, sand, or perlite with 20% organic matter). pH 6.0–7.5. Germination temperature 70–80°F (21–27°C).
Germination Time: 7–21 days.
Watering: Mist lightly to keep surface moist until germination. After germination, water sparingly with a fine spray. Reduce watering significantly after first true leaves appear. Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Never overwater.
Additional Tips: Lithops seedlings are tiny and fragile. Do not transplant for the first year. After the first year, water only when the top of the plant appears slightly wrinkled. Stop watering completely during winter dormancy.
