Description

Lemon balm is a perennial herb in the mint family with lemon-scented leaves. It is used in teas and as a culinary herb.

Product features

• Bright, fresh lemon scent and mild lemon flavor from the leaves
• Fast growing and easy to cultivate, ideal for beginner herb gardeners
• Perennial, returning year after year (USDA zones 4–9)
• Attracts bees and other pollinators, especially when flowering
• Small white or pale yellow flowers appear in summer
• Leaves can be harvested fresh or dried for later use
• Suitable for containers, herb gardens, and pollinator borders

Sowing: Direct sow after last frost, or start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Surface sow or barely cover (⅛ inch deep). Space plants 18 inches apart. Full sun to partial shade.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, moderately fertile soil (pH 6.0–7.5). Tolerates poor soil. Germination temperature 65–70°F (18–21°C).
Germination Time: 7–14 days.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination and early growth. Once established, water moderately, allowing soil surface to dry between waterings. Lemon balm tolerates brief dry periods.
Additional Tips: Lemon balm can self-seed prolifically. Remove flower heads before seeds mature to control spread. Cut back after flowering to encourage fresh leafy growth. Leaves are best harvested in the morning after dew has dried.
