Planting Season: Sow in spring after the last frost when soil has warmed to at least 65°F (18°C). These heat-loving seeds germinate best in warm soil.
Light Requirement: Full sun (at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily).
Seed Prep: No special preparation required. Seeds germinate readily in warm soil.
Water Needs: Keep soil evenly moist during germination (7–14 days). Once established, water very sparingly; these plants are highly drought tolerant and prefer dry conditions. Overwatering may reduce flowering.
Planting Depth: ¼–½ inch. Moss Rose seeds are very small and should be surface sown or covered very lightly.
Sowing Method: Broadcast seeds over prepared soil in sunny, dry areas. For xeriscaping, sow directly in the intended location and allow plants to establish naturally.
Plant Spacing: Space plants 6–12 inches apart. Closer spacing (6 inches) creates a denser, more drought-resistant ground cover effect.
Hardiness Zones: Annual in all zones (USDA zones 2–11). Moss Rose is tender perennial in zones 10–11.
Additional Tips: This mix is perfect for hot, dry gardens where water conservation is important. Do not over-fertilize, as rich soil can reduce flowering and increase water needs. Water deeply but infrequently to encourage deep root growth. For best results in containers, use well-draining potting mix and avoid saucers that hold water.
