Description

Evening primrose is a biennial or perennial plant with bright yellow, fragrant flowers that open in the evening. It attracts nocturnal pollinators.

Product features

• Unique evening-blooming habit, with flowers opening in late afternoon and closing by mid-morning
• Sweet, lemon-like fragrance that becomes noticeable in the evening
• Attracts night-flying pollinators such as moths
• Drought tolerant once established, suitable for dry, sandy areas
• Self-seeds readily for naturalized gardens and meadows
• Flowers are followed by interesting seed pods
• Biennial or short-lived perennial, often returning from seed

Sowing: Direct sow in early spring or fall. Surface sow or barely cover with soil (light aids germination). Space plants 12–18 inches apart. Full sun to partial shade.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, sandy or rocky soil (pH 5.5–7.5). Tolerates poor, dry soil. Germination temperature 65–70°F (18–21°C).
Germination Time: 14–21 days.
Watering: Keep soil lightly moist until germination. Once established, water very sparingly; evening primrose is highly drought tolerant. Overwatering may cause root rot.
Additional Tips: Self-seeding can be aggressive in some areas; deadhead spent flowers (morning after bloom) to reduce unwanted spread. Leave some seed heads if naturalization is desired.
