Description
Chamomile is a low-growing annual or perennial herb with small, daisy-like flowers. It is commonly used in teas.
Product features
• Small, apple-scented, daisy-like flowers with white petals and yellow centers
• Flowers are commonly harvested and dried for tea
• Easy to grow from seed, often blooming within 8–10 weeks
• Low-growing, creeping habit (German chamomile is taller; Roman is ground-hugging)
• Self-seeds readily for natural return year after year
• Attracts beneficial insects including hoverflies and parasitic wasps
• Suitable for herb gardens, borders, and between vegetables as a companion plant
Sowing: Direct sow in spring after last frost, or sow in fall for early spring blooms. Surface sow (needs light to germinate); press into soil but do not cover. Space plants 6–12 inches apart. Full sun to partial shade.
Soil & Temperature: Prefers well-draining, sandy or loamy soil (pH 5.5–7.5). Tolerates poor soil. Germination temperature 65–70°F (18–21°C).
Germination Time: 7–14 days.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during germination and until seedlings are established. Once mature, water moderately; chamomile is moderately drought tolerant.
Additional Tips: Chamomile flowers are best harvested when petals are fully open and flat. Dry flowers in a shaded, well-ventilated area for tea. Deadheading prolongs blooming. If self-seeding is not desired, remove spent flower heads.
